For some reason, Lenovo endowed the P500 IdeaPad laptop computer with the capability of persistent screen dimness. The dimness feature can be turned on by pressing the F11 key while the machine is booting. This makes it quite difficult to use.
The screen dimness feature is turned off by pressing the F12 key while the machine is booting.
