Linux and particularly Linux Mint does not have a hibernate option as standard. Here is how to enable it.
The hibernate enabling instructions in the Linux Mint Forums for Linux Mint 19 still work fantastically all the way up to Version 22 and on an obscure Linux box made by Geekom (IT12).
This is particularly useful on a non-battery system like a mini-PC.
The bottom lines are:
- You need to have a swap file with adequate space
- Add hibernation to your grub file and update grub
- Add the option to the shutdown options
